Mia Khalifa has been dropped from her deal with Playboy amid social media posts voicing her support of Palestine. Khalifa, who is Lebanese-American, took to Twitter over the weekend to speak about the militant forces that led a deadly attack in Israel, sparking a war between the nations.
“Can someone please tell the freedom fighters in Palestine to flip their phones and film horizontal,” she wrote on Saturday (Oct. 7), later adding another post that many deemed questionable. “I can’t believe the Zionist apartheid regime is being brought down by guerrilla fighters in fake Gucci shirts – the biopics of these moments better reflect that,” the adult film star typed in another post that same day. She would also repost and share several tweets expressing solidarity with Palestine throughout the weekend.
On Monday (Oct. 9), Playboy announced that it was severing all ties with Khalifa, effectively immediately, deeming her comments inexcusable. “We are writing today to let you know of our decision to terminate Playboy’s relationship with Mia Khalifa, including deleting Mia’s Playboy channel on our creator platform,” the outlet shared in an email with its subscribers.
In addition to Playboy, Red Light Holland, a brand that produces truffles in the Netherlands, dropped the 30-year-old as an advisor, with RLH’s CEO firing her via social media. “This is such a horrendous tweet
@miakhalifa,” Todd Shapiro wrote in a post that was shared on the company’s account.
“Consider yourself fired effective immediately. Simply disgusting. Beyond disgusting. Please evolve and become a better human being. The fact you are condoning death, rape, beatings and hostage taking is truly gross. No words can explain your ignorance. We need humans to come together, especially in the face of tragedy. I pray for you to become a better person. However, it clearly seems like it’s too late for you.”
Khalifa appeared to be unfazed by losing Shapiro and Red Light Holland’s endorsement, expressing that her principles were more important than a business deal. “I’d say supporting Palestine has lost me business opportunities, but I’m more angry at myself for not checking whether or not I was entering into business with Zionists,” she wrote in response. “My bad.”
In a subsequent post, she began to denigrate both Shapiro and RLH, claiming she was never a fan or consumer of the brand, “That’s the most press you’ll ever get out of me for your sh**ty little company you quite literally couldn’t pay me to post about it publicly before because I thought it was so bad,” she fired back, defiantly announcing that “it’s FREE PALESTINE until Palestine is FREE.”
